We Want Our Lemonade and We Want It NOW!

Today we have instant lemonade, instant coffee, fast food, and of all things, we even have microwave choc cake! (I could actually go for some instant chocolate cake right now! Ha ha)
Us humans seem to want that immediate gratification, we want our personal enjoyment, and our tension relieved… we want what we want and we want it NOW, we want it INSTANTLY.
I’m reading a book about the power of self-discipline and in today’s chapter I read about a business man who conducted an 11 year study on the common denominators of success, what he found was that successful people were more concerned with the positive long term consequences of their behaviors, whereas unsuccessful people were more concerned with personal enjoyment and immediate gratification. Another motivational speaker put it this way: successful people are more concerned with activities that are goal achieving whereas average people are more concerned with tension relieving.
We need to think about our life, our future, our God given dreams and callings, and then we need to do things that will help us reach those goals, we need to think long term.
When we are about to do something that brings immediate gratification or is tension relieving for our personal enjoyment, we need to think about how it will affect our future goals, how will those actions affect the call of God on our life, will those actions bring us closer to our dreams being fulfilled or take us away from them.
What will be the consequences of our actions?
It only takes an “instant” of doing or saying something that can change our future forever.
Ask the person in jail who just had to check or send that text right now even though they were driving, and they killed someone.
-or that person who just had to have that drink before driving home so they could relieve tension but is now behind bars and not able to with their family again
-or the divorced and torn apart family members because mom/dad just had to spend time with that other person who made them feel so special and they ended up having an affair, now both families are broken apart, hurt and their future forever changed
-or the person who put all their paycheck into the slot machine, thinking maybe this time it would pay off, but instead lost everything and his wife left him because “one more time” was more than she could handle
I could go on and on, but if we really want to be successful in our life, we must put God first, and we must think long term, think about our actions, think about the possible consequences and think about how it will affect God’s call on our life.
God has amazing things for your future, His way is the best way!

Have a lemonade kind of day!
